History

In 2002, a group of people in the community came together to organize a benefit for the family of a little girl suffering with terminal cancer. At the group's first meeting, it was agreed upon that this should be the first of many benefits, not for just one individual or family, but to help as many people in the community as possible.

On the day of the benefit, the little girl was too ill to attend. Out of the clear blue sky a white dove made its' appearance, and went around from person to person, allowing each to hold and pet it. Several announcements were made that the owner should come forward and claim the dove, however at the end of the day no one had come forward. The dove was taken home and named after the ill child. It was if the child was being represented by the white dove.

The benefit was extremely successful, raising over $30,000 for the family of the little girl. Organizers and other participants in the benefit came back together to create an organization with the goal of helping those in the community who are faced with crisis in their lives by providing monetary relief for every day or extraordinary expenses.

In 2003 The White Dove of Hope was incorporated, and the first official function was held, a benefit for the family of Cynthia Cox, a young mother of two suffering from cancer.
